Worry Outranks Other Feelings in New 250th Anniversary Poll

An NPR/PBS News/Marist poll of 1,340 U.S. adults released July 1, 2026, found 32% of Americans worried about the country's direction as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary—more than any other single sentiment surveyed. Twenty-two percent said they felt frustrated, while 23% expressed other feelings. A majority also reported feeling pride, showing Americans hold both anxiety and pride simultaneously.
