Idaho Makes Firing Squad Its Only Execution Method

Idaho becomes the first U.S. state to adopt firing squad as its exclusive execution method starting July 1, 2026, after Governor Brad Little signed House Bill 37 in March 2025. Five other states allow firing squad but keep lethal injection as primary. Idaho's retroactive law gave the state time to prepare its execution chamber. Lethal injection remains available if firing squad cannot proceed.
