Idaho Becomes First State to Use Only Firing Squad for Executions

Starting July 1, 2026, Idaho will be the only U.S. state where firing squad is the standard way executions are carried out. Governor Brad Little signed the law in March 2025. Five other states allow firing squad but use lethal injection as their main method. If firing squad doesn't work, Idaho will use lethal injection instead.
