Lib Dem Treasury Spokesman Quits to Challenge Davey

Charlie Maynard, the Liberal Democrats' Treasury spokesman on money and tax and MP for Witney, resigned on 9 October 2026 to try to remove leader Ed Davey. The Guardian reports months of frustration that the party was not breaking through with voters drove the move. Deputy leader Daisy Cooper said Davey retains backing from the vast majority of MPs.
