Labour housing chair presses chancellor to speed up £39bn homes plan
Abena Oppong-Asare, Labour chair of the Commons housing committee, urged the chancellor to spend more of the £39bn Social and Affordable Homes Programme — the government's long-term fund for low-cost housing — during this parliament, with priority for social-rent homes. Ministers currently plan to hold much of the remaining £13bn until after the next election.
