Syria Demands Independent Inquiry Into Alfa Watan Sinking

Syria is demanding an independent, transparent inquiry into the early-Tuesday sinking of the Alfa Watan, a ship registered in Togo, inside Bulgaria's offshore economic zone. Port official Mazen Aloush pressed Bulgaria and the International Maritime Organization, the UN shipping regulator, to explain halting the search while ten crew — nine Syrians, one Egyptian — remain missing.
