Class 1 drivers can now permanently drive heavier electric trucks

New Zealand has made permanent a weight allowance for electric trucks. Class 1 licence holders can now drive battery-powered vehicles up to 7,500 kg — previously they needed a Class 2 licence. The change removes a temporary measure and aligns New Zealand with other countries. Most electric delivery trucks used in cities fall within this weight range.
