Australia's Second-Hottest September Runs 2.71C Above Average

Australia had its second-hottest September in 2026, 2.71C above the 1961-1990 baseline average, the Bureau of Meteorology reports. Overnight lows were the warmest in any September since national records started in 1910. All states placed in their five warmest Septembers. Australia has not recorded a cooler-than-average September since 2004.
