Egypt Detains Six Matsadaash Fact-Checkers, Five Still Unaccounted For

Egyptian security forces detained six Matsadaash journalists Sept. 28-29: Abdallah Qadri, Mohamed Ashraf, Mohamed Adel, Islam Barakat, Mohamed Mahmoud and Omar Helal. Authorities accuse the independent fact-checking outlet — which verifies news claims — of operating without a license and publishing false news for the Muslim Brotherhood. Its co-founder denies the claim. As of Oct. 4, five remain unaccounted for.
