Electric vehicles get weight exemption on standard driver licences

Transport Minister Chris Bishop announced on 26 June that Class 1 and Class 2 licence holders can now operate heavier zero-emission vehicles. The change lets operators compensate for the extra weight EV batteries add compared to petrol engines. It removes a regulatory barrier to fleet electrification and could boost the share of emissions-free freight transport.
