Rare Roman sculptures unearthed at sanctuary in Chartres

Archaeologists unearthed a rare cache of ancient Roman sculptures at a vast ancient sanctuary, a religious complex, in Chartres, south-west of Paris, ARTnews reported on 1 October 2026. Heritage Daily reported numerous statue fragments and sculpted reliefs, carving raised from stone, lay around and inside a large central basin.
