Funding shortfall overtakes climate as top threat to heritage sites

Lack of public funding has overtaken floods, storms and wildfires as the main threat to historic sites, a 30 September World Monuments Fund study found. It drew on 372 nominations for the 2027 World Monuments Watch List. 65% cited funding shortages, up from 55% in 2024, against around 30% naming extreme weather, The Art Newspaper reported.
