Amex claims 190 million places now take its cards

American Express says its cards now work at over 190 million merchant locations globally, Reuters reported September 28. That means fewer rejections at the till, supporting travel spending and Amex's fee income. I'm skeptical this alone matches Visa and Mastercard without knowing what merchants pay to accept Amex.
