France confirms first Ebola case as outbreak spreads across Congo

A French physician who contracted Ebola while working in the Democratic Republic of Congo has tested positive—France's first case. The patient acquired the Bundibugyo strain, for which no licensed vaccine exists, during fieldwork abroad. The DRC outbreak has now reached 710 confirmed cases and 149 deaths. European health authorities have activated containment protocols.
