U2 drummer and co-founder Larry Mullen Jr. said he does not know if he can play a full live show again after neck surgery, in a Rolling Stone digital cover story published 28 September. Doctors suggested retirement over chronic congenital fusion in a neck facet joint irritated by drumming. He sat out U2's 2023-2024 Sphere residency in Las Vegas.
