Isaac Chong Wai cites Leslie Cheung in Tai Kwun work on queer identity

Berlin-based Hong Kong artist Isaac Chong Wai named Cantopop star Leslie Cheung as the primary inspiration for An Intimate Surrender at Tai Kwun Contemporary in Hong Kong, The Art Newspaper reported on 28 September 2026. The performance explores Asian masculinity and queer identity. Cheung died in 2003 and spoke openly about his sexuality.
