UK to more than double defence spending by 2035, targeting 5% of GDP
Defence Secretary Dan Jarvis announced on 23 June that Britain will raise defence spending to 5% of GDP by 2035, more than double the current 2.3%. The commitment would place the UK among NATO's highest military spenders by proportion. Reversing a decade of Army cuts requires growing troop numbers, speeding up weapons programmes, and rebuilding ammunition reserves.
