Wall under Paris hospital thought to be rampart of ancient Lutetia

Inrap, the French national institute for preventive archaeology, found a roughly 20-metre stone-and-wood wall beneath the Hôtel-Dieu hospital in Paris, on the Ile de la Cité in the River Seine. The French culture ministry said it is thought to be a fragment of the ramparts, or defensive walls, of Lutetia, ancient Paris. It was announced on 23 September 2026.
