19-year-old paid 40,000 Swiss francs for Van Gogh in 1908

Gertrud Dübi-Müller, 19, bought Vincent van Gogh's Portrait of Charles-Elzéard Trabuc from Galerie Miethke in Vienna after seeing her first Van Gogh show at Galerien Thannhauser in Munich in March 1908, The Art Newspaper reported. Dispatched 27 April, paid 30 April 1908, it cost 40,000 Swiss francs, then US$7,700. It is on loan to the Kunstmuseum Basel in Basel, Switzerland.
