Tokyo festival sets 13-film Mizoguchi retrospective for 70th anniversary of death

The 39th Tokyo International Film Festival will stage a 13-film Mizoguchi Kenji retrospective marking 70 years since his death, Variety reported. It runs Oct. 27-Nov. 1 at the National Film Archive's Nagase Memorial Theatre Ozu with English subtitles, Variety reported. The Water Magician (1933) gets its first Japan screening in a Yanai Initiative restoration with live benshi narration, Variety reported.
