California High Court Orders Sheriff to Return 650,000 Seized Ballots

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco must return more than 650,000 ballots seized earlier in 2026, California’s highest court ruled. The seizure violated state election law, which limits who can handle ballots. Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero warned secret police custody threatens trust in elections. The sheriff had acted on fraud claims that local officials say were unfounded.
