National to make KiwiSaver compulsory, with $1,500 government payment at birth
National has introduced legislation to make KiwiSaver compulsory for all workers and automatically enrol newborns with a $1,500 government contribution. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is seeking cross-party backing to protect the changes across parliamentary terms. It's the first time any government has moved compulsory KiwiSaver to legislation since the scheme launched in 2006.
