National wants KiwiSaver to be mandatory, starting with $1,500 for newborns
National is introducing a law to make KiwiSaver — a retirement savings scheme — compulsory for all workers. Newborns would automatically be signed up with $1,500 from the government. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon wants support from other parties to keep the changes in place. No government has made KiwiSaver compulsory in law before since it started in 2006.
