NATS says software defect caused 8 September air traffic failure

A software defect caused the failure of NATS's flight data system on 8 September 2026, the UK air traffic controller said in a preliminary report on 18 September. The outage halted flights and heavily disrupted airlines and airports. The UK had given NATS one week to investigate.
