NATS blames software defect for 8 September flight system failure

UK air traffic controller NATS said a software defect caused its flight data system to fail on 8 September 2026, in a preliminary report published 18 September. NATS said the failure caused significant disruption to airlines and airports. The UK had given NATS one week to investigate the outage that halted flights.
