U.S. Death Toll in Iran War Is at Least 22, Above Pentagon Count

At least 22 U.S. service members have died in the Iran war that started Feb. 28, four more than the Pentagon's public casualty list shows, the Washington Post reported Sept. 18, 2026. The difference comes from whether deaths are counted as hostile, meaning in combat, or non-hostile.
