At Least 22 U.S. Troops Have Died in Iran War

At least 22 American service members have died in the war with Iran that began Feb. 28, the Washington Post reported on Sept. 18, 2026. That is four more than the Pentagon's public list shows. The gap is due to how the military labels deaths as combat-related or not.
