Norway Advances Legal Ban on Settlement Trade, Ending Diplomatic Intermediary Role

Norway's government introduced a draft bill on 19 June 2026 banning citizens and companies from trading goods with Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories. The legislation codifies non-binding guidance from October 2024. This shift away from Norway's traditional role as facilitator—the country helped broker the 1993 Oslo Accords—positions it among the few states with statutory restrictions on settlement commerce.
