Syria Detains Five Ex-Assad Air Officers Over Civilian Strikes

Syria has arrested five former air force officers accused of ordering or carrying out airstrikes on civilians under Bashar al-Assad. Tartous security chief announced the detentions Sept. 18, 2026. The group includes pilots and operations-room staff, held with the Counter Terrorism Directorate. Investigations are ongoing before any trial.
