Survivor says 37 suffocated in crowded Niger State cell
Dauda Shehu, who survived, told The Associated Press that 65 detainees were crowded into a cell with little airflow at an NSCDC — Nigeria's civil defence security agency — facility in northeastern Niger State, and 37 may have suffocated. He said men fought for air and banged on the door. Officials blame disease; bodies are awaiting medical exams.
