Apple Watch Series 12 records heart rate every five seconds at rest and during activity, up from once every five minutes on earlier models. Apple credits a redesigned sensor array, the light sensors, and S11 processor chip. In testing it stayed within five beats per minute of a Polar H10 chest strap during runs, a walk and at rest.
