India ends free UPI for large merchant payments

From October 15, India's NPCI will charge shops a 0.4% fee — called a Merchant Discount Rate — on UPI payments over 2,000 rupees (~$20.93), capped at 300 rupees. It ends more than six years of free UPI, which handled 241.6 billion transactions worth $3.3 trillion last financial year.
