National would look at splitting Pak'nSave from New World

National would investigate separating Pak'nSave and New World, both owned by Foodstuffs, into separate companies, the party said on 16 September 2026. It says that would leave three nationwide chains, including Pak'nSave and New World/Four Square, to increase competition and lower grocery prices. It is part of its 2026 election pitch.
