Senate pushes CBC toward independent journalism audits

A Senate committee recommended 18 June that outside experts periodically audit CBC/Radio-Canada's news coverage for fairness, rather than relying only on internal ombudsmen. The proposal adds accountability above current CRTC licensing rules and CBC's own oversight offices. It would require government policy shifts or new legislation. Who selects the experts and whether results become public remain unclear.
