Senate urges CBC to submit journalism to outside fairness audits
A Senate committee recommended on 18 June that CBC/Radio-Canada have outside experts periodically assess its news coverage for fairness and balance, rather than relying solely on internal ombudsmen. The recommendation creates a new accountability layer atop existing CRTC licensing conditions and CBC's own ombudsman offices. Implementation would require government policy action or legislative change. How experts are selected and whether findings are publicly released remain unspecified.
