Bank of England Directors Linked to Slave-Trade Financing

Research by Dr Michael Bennett links 24 Bank of England directors to financing the trafficking of enslaved Africans, including four founding directors in 1694. At least 30 founding subscribers — early investors — also put money into the trade. Bennett argues this wealth helped form the Bank's starting capital, strengthening evidence tying British finance to slavery.
