24 Bank of England Directors Linked to Slave Trade, Including Four Founders

Research by Dr Michael Bennett found 24 Bank of England directors financed trafficking of enslaved Africans, including four founding directors in 1694. At least 30 founding subscribers also invested. Bennett concludes slave-trade wealth formed part of the Bank's initial capital, deepening known links between British finance and enslavement.
