Pennsylvania health officials reported Sept. 15 that an 18-year-old from Mifflin County with encephalomyelitis — brain and spinal cord inflammation — died from measles-related illness. All four U.S. measles-linked deaths in 2026 have been in Pennsylvania, in Lancaster and Mifflin counties. State and federal tallies differ, so how deaths are counted needs watching.
