NEMA commissions tsunami research at Milford Sound over evacuation concerns

The National Emergency Management Agency is funding research into tsunami hazards at Milford Sound, which receives around 800,000 visitors yearly. The fiord's single sealed road, steep walls and limited high ground restrict evacuation options. The study will improve wave modelling and test whether current visitor numbers can be safely managed in an emergency.
