The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield hit 5% on September 14, 2026, CNBC and CNN reported, the first time since 2023. The yield — the annual payout on government bonds — sets the bar for mortgage and business loan rates. In my view, that rise tightens borrowing on its own, before the Fed acts.
