The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield hit 5% on September 14, 2026, CNBC and CNN reported, the first 5% print since 2023. Yield is the annual return on government IOUs and anchors mortgage and business loan rates. I see higher borrowing costs doing the Fed's tightening work for it, even before any rate decision.
