Over Half of England's 2026 Candidates Faced Abuse, Election Watchdog Says

More than half of candidates in England's 2026 mayoral and local elections faced inappropriate behaviour, harassment or security threats, the Electoral Commission, the body overseeing elections, reported on 14 September 2026. It called abuse and intimidation 'a serious and growing concern,' saying threats surged and hit candidates from all parties.
