Harvard study predicts 75% of suicide attempts one week ahead

Harvard's Nock Lab predicted 75% of suicide attempts and 87% of suicide-related events one week before they occurred, in a multiyear study of over 600 high-risk adults and adolescents recruited from emergency psychiatric and inpatient settings. Findings appear in the October 2026 Journal of Psychopathology and Clinical Science. The one-week window aligns with when proximal planning typically crystallizes.
