Harvard study predicts 75% of suicide attempts one week in advance

Harvard's Nock Lab predicted 75% of suicide attempts and 87% of suicide-related events in the week before they occurred, across a multiyear study of over 600 high-risk adults and adolescents recruited from emergency psychiatric and inpatient settings. Findings appear in the October 2026 issue of the Journal of Psychopathology and Clinical Science. The one-week window aligns with when most proximal planning crystallizes.
