Sonic in Fortnite is an android, not the real hedgehog — because Sonic will never hold a gun

Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka told IGN (published 3 September 2026) that the Sonic in Fortnite is an android replica, not the real hedgehog. The genuine Sonic "will never hold a gun," Iizuka said, so a mechanical copy was used instead. The android runs at normal Fortnite speed and swims on water — abilities the real character lacks.
