Canada records first drop in opioid deaths in years

Canada reported 6,161 opioid-related deaths between July 2024 and June 2025, averaging 17 daily. The decline marks the first measured drop in recent years. Fentanyl Czar Kevin Brosseau presented the data to U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi on June 15, tying the progress to Canada-U.S. trade negotiations.
