Russian attacks destroy 10 million books in Ukraine — 30% of annual output

Russian attacks across Ukraine in summer 2026 have destroyed more than 10 million books — roughly 30% of the country's annual book production, the Ukrainian Book Institute reported on 13 August. Losses span publishers, warehouses, bookstores, libraries and printing facilities. The Institute has appealed to international publishers for support and urged an end to cooperation with Russian publishing houses.
