First election where you can't sign up to vote on the day

For the first time, you will not be able to sign up to vote on election day itself. The new law means anyone not enrolled by midnight on 25 October 2026 will not have their vote counted. About 440,000 people who could vote have not signed up yet, the Electoral Commission says — nearly 200,000 are under 25.
