Government sells Chorus loans for $702m but won't say what taxpayers still owe

The Government is selling loans it gave Chorus for $702m — $60m more than they were worth on paper — settling August 2026. Minister Chris Bishop said a Crown agency gives buyers "limited protection for unlikely risks," but won't say what that means or what it could cost taxpayers. The money was already counted in Budget 2026.
