
Prime Minister wants vote on longer parliamentary term and flags possible vote on voting system
Prime Minister Christopher Luxon told Newstalk ZB voters should "definitely" decide whether Parliament's term stretches to four years, and said he was open to a vote on MMP — New Zealand's voting system — itself. The comments blindsided coalition partners and National colleagues. The last MMP vote was in 2011, when 57.8 percent kept it. The election is set for 7 November 2026.
